Connect Cursor to your email
Add Sickle to Cursor's MCP servers with one click or a few lines of mcp.json, so Cursor's agent can search, read and tidy every mailbox you own.
Sickle is a remote MCP server: Cursor talks to it over HTTP, so there is no package to install and no local process to keep running. Sign-in is OAuth, so there is no API key to paste into your config. Once connected, Cursor's agent sees every mailbox in your Sickle account at once — Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Fastmail, Yahoo and any IMAP host.
Before you start
- A Sickle account with at least one mailbox connected. If you do not have one yet, start a free trial and add your mailboxes in the Mac app or on the Mailboxes page. There is a step-by-step guide for Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Fastmail and any other IMAP mailbox.
- Cursor installed.
Add the server
The quickest way is the install link. With Cursor installed, open it and confirm the install when Cursor asks:
Or add it by hand to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, which makes Sickle available in every project:
{
"mcpServers": {
"sickle": {
"url": "https://mcp.sickle.app"
}
}
}
If the file already has other servers, add the sickle entry inside the existing mcpServers object. To add Sickle to a single project instead, put the same JSON in .cursor/mcp.json at the project root.
Sign in and approve access
Open the MCP servers list: the Customize page in current versions of Cursor, Cursor Settings → Tools & MCP in older ones. Sickle shows Needs authentication; click Connect.
Your browser opens a Sickle sign-in page. Sign in and approve the permissions Cursor asks for:
- email_read lets it list your mailboxes and folders, search and read messages.
- email_change lets it mark messages as read, move them between folders and move them to Trash.
You may also see email_send. Nothing uses it yet: Sickle has no tool that sends mail.
Check it works
Back in the MCP settings, Sickle should have a green dot and list its tools.
Open the agent chat and ask:
Which mailboxes can you see?
The agent calls list_accounts and names every mailbox in your Sickle account.
Troubleshooting
- Connect does nothing. Click the Needs authentication label itself, or open View → Output, pick MCP: sickle and open the sign-in link it prints.
- Sickle shows a red dot. Check
mcp.jsonis valid JSON and the URL is exactlyhttps://mcp.sickle.app, then toggle the server off and on. - The agent only sees some of your mailboxes. It sees exactly the mailboxes in your Sickle account. Add the others in the Mac app or on the Mailboxes page.
Disconnect
Delete the sickle entry from mcp.json, or remove it in the MCP settings. To cut access from the Sickle side, revoke Cursor on the Connect AI page in your dashboard; access it already holds ends within the hour.
